A 19th-century Swedish painted pine Mora clock
The painted pine case of typical Mora form, with a softly curved hood and tapering body, retaining a painted finish. The enamel dial signed “AAJ”. The clock fitted with a weight-driven movement.
Mora clocks originate from the Mora region of Dalarna, Sweden, and were first produced in the mid-18th century, with their greatest popularity spanning the late 18th and 19th centuries.
The cases were typically constructed from pine, an abundant local timber, and painted in soft, muted colours such as grey, blue, cream, or green.
