William Webster of London: 18th century 8 day longcase clock by this renowned maker.
The case is mahogany with burr wood veneer panels. the hood is flat topped with a brass dial with decorative spandrals.
The 8-day movement strikes hours on a bell, whilst the dial features ''Strike/Silent'' in the arch; subsidiary seconds and date aperture. Signed: ''Willm. Webster, Exchange Alley, LONDON.
***William Webster (II) worked in Exchange Alley, in the heart of London''s clockmaking district, having been apprenticed in 1727. He was a full member of the Clockmakers Company 1734-1776.
